Our Story

Rooted in Tacoma. Accountable to neighbors.

Hilltops Ten Toes Down Nonprofit Charity Association exists to support families facing hardship, improve everyday quality of life, and build social welfare programs that last beyond a single season of need.

Origin & history

The organization grew from quiet, practical help already happening in Tacoma’s Hilltop and South End corridors—neighbors covering a late utility bill, packing donated shoes for families who need sturdy footwear, walking a teen home after school. In 2023 those efforts took official shape as a public charity so gifts could be tracked, reported, and stretched further.

On August 2, 2023, the IRS recognized Hilltops Ten Toes Down Nonprofit Charity Association as exempt under IRC Section 501(c)(3). The determination letter (Letter 947, dated August 21, 2023) classifies us as a public charity under Section 170(b)(1)(A)(vi)—supported by the general public, not a private foundation.

Our long-term roadmap is simple: keep crisis relief fast and dignified, expand skills workshops that lead to real paychecks, and deepen youth and senior outreach so fewer people face hard seasons alone. We file annually, publish clear fund allocation goals, and answer donor questions without delay.

Core values we practice weekly

These are not poster slogans. They show up in how we answer the phone, how we spend a gift, and how we write meeting minutes.

Compassion

We meet people where they are—without lectures—and start with the most urgent need first.

Integrity

Board decisions, conflict disclosures, and financial reports stay honest even when the numbers are small.

Direct Impact

Eighty-eight percent of donated funds are directed to active community outreach programs.

Radical Transparency

EIN, officer contacts, and filing status are published openly so donors never have to guess.

Community First

Programs are designed with Tacoma neighbors—not for a distant audience that will never meet them.

Steady Presence

We prefer weekly routines—meal nights, mentoring Saturdays—over one-time publicity events.

501(c)(3) legal transparency

Donors and partners deserve clear, verifiable facts. The details below match our IRS determination letter and current Form 990-N filings.
